Pedro M asked:

Me and my friend are trying to set up xbox live, and we are having to manually type it all in. It’s set up through a router. We typed in a few numbers already but it says DNS fail every time.

I think Get them from your internet provider. They usually have them posted on their web site.

While connected to the internet on your computer, go to control panel -> Network Options and find your active internet connection. Then right click that connection and click Status/View Status. Then in that window click Details.

are people answering these questions finding their answers onthe back of a cornflake box , good lord people if you have no idea what your talking about , then dont answer the freaking question

your primary and 2nd DNS are set by you in regards to your router

in your pc go to the cmd prompt and type ipconfig /all

you will see where it says DNS server ( the same as your router )
probably 192.168.1.1 that would be your primary DNS

your 2nd make 192.168.2.1 or just leave it blank

done

I think Use 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.3 they are solid dependable DNS servers run by Verizon on the Level3 network and will work anywhere. In fact, you can use anything from 4.2.2.1 – 4.2.2.6 if you’d like.

You don’t need to use your providers DNS servers, those will probably work better anyway.

Your ISP’s DNS servers are available from tech support or on the tech support area of their web site. You can also use “third party” DNS servers like the free ones offered by OpenDNS.com. But you probably don’t need to do anything at all.

The vast majority of home setups will work with DHCP or automatic mode, without adding DNS addresses by hand. The computer or Xbox will ask the router for the correct numbers to use. Leave the DNS section blank unless you need it.

If you do have to do it by hand, follow the procedure you used for your PC.
